About Us

TREETOP is a research group of the LTDS laboratory of the Ecole Centrale de Lyon, France. The group is led by Pr. Stéphane VALETTE and Pr. Stéphane BENAYOUN.

Mission

TREETOP stands for “Tribology and Engineering of Bio-inspired Surfaces”. The scientific objective of the group is to understand the relationships between the morphology of a surface and its tribological properties, mainly in terms of wetting and adhesion.

To achieve this objective, the group is developing three research axes: one axis on complex surface texturing processes, one axis on wettability and adhesion and a transverse axis on biomimicry.

The TREETOP group develops fundamental and applied research activities in collaboration with numerous industrial partners.

Professors VALETTE and BENAYOUN teach courses in biomimicry, materials, wettability and surface engineering at the Ecole Centrale de Lyon as well as in various masters programs at the University of Lyon.
